Stefanos Tsitsipas recently announced he would no longer be coached by his father.
For years, people suggested Tsitsipas should change his coach. While their partnership worked early on, lately, the Greek player has been struggling with consistency.
Though he still shows flashes of brilliance , comparing him to five years ago reveals little improvement.
His game hasn’t evolved much, and some even say he’s regressed. Sustaining a successful career means growing as a player; Novak Djokovic‘s journey is proof of that. Djokovic keeps adding new elements to his game and improving steadily. Unfortunately, Tsitsipas hasn’t followed this path.

Coaching Dynamics:
Many believe the tension between him and his father affected his performance. Even when he sought help from Patrick Mouratoglou and Mark Philippoussis, it didn’t fully click despite showing promise.
Recently in Montreal at the Canadian Open, Tsitsipas lost to Kei Nishikori in the first round. This match had more tense moments between father and son. Afterward, Tsitsipas announced that his dad would no longer be coaching him.
Apostolos will still travel with Stefanos but won’t be involved during matches anymore. Fans might wonder how this will play out since Apostolos is known for being a vocal spectator.
In Cincinnati, footage showed Tsitsipas practicing with Dimitris Chatzinikolaou instead of rushing to find a new coach immediately. Chatzinikolaou is experienced and knows Stefanos well; he was also Greece’s Team Leader at the Olympics where Stefanos played some great tennis.
Maybe this positive experience led Tsitsipas to bring him along for another shot at an ATP Masters 1000 trophy in Cincinnati.
What do you think about this change? Will it help or hurt Stefanos’ game?
