Stefanos Tsitsipas is searching for a new coach and has started the process of finding one.
After a surprising loss to Kei Nishikori in the Canadian Open, he decided to part ways with his father, Apostolos, who had been his longtime coach. In a post-match interview, Tsitsipas expressed disappointment with his father’s coaching methods, calling them outdated and confronting him during the match.
Their disagreements aren’t new; last year, Tsitsipas temporarily replaced his father with Mark Philippousis . However, that partnership was short-lived, and Apostolos returned to the coaching box. This year has seen mixed results for Tsitsipas.
Recent Performances:
Tsitsipas won the Monte-Carlo Masters in April but hasn’t been happy with his overall form. He reached another final in Barcelona but lost to Casper Ruud. At Grand Slam events, he still hasn’t won one of those prestigious titles and recently lost again to Carlos Alcaraz at Roland Garros. His Olympic dreams also fell short as he failed to win a medal.

Last week, Tsitsipas apologized for criticizing his father but seems uninterested in reuniting professionally on tour. Instead, he played at the Cincinnati Open without him and hired Dimitris Chatzinikolaou temporarily. Fans might find this change refreshing as it shows he’s willing to try new strategies.
He won against Jan-Lennard Struff but didn’t make it past the second round after losing to Jack Draper. Speaking about future plans with Dutch media Ziggo Sport:
“I’m not quite sure…I will be trying to make an interview with different coaches. I will set up an interview with a few of them. I am not entirely sure of how I am going to proceed in terms of which coach I will be picking. So that is something that is uncertain for now. But I am glad Dimitri stepped in to help me out. I have known him my entire life since I was a little baby.”
Tsitsipas has some candidates lined up but hasn’t made any permanent decisions yet as he heads next to New York for the US Open.
