Why Alcaraz Must Reach Another Elite Level According to Williams’ Ex-Coach

-

Carlos Alcaraz‘s current skills may not be enough in the future because of Jannik Sinner, says Rick Macci, who used to coach Serena Williams.

At just 21, Alcaraz has already won four Grand Slam titles. People like John McEnroe think he’s the best player ever at his age.

With Novak Djokovic getting older, some thought Alcaraz might take over tennis like Roger Federer did from 2004-2007 when he won 11 out of 16 Grand Slams.

Federer’s winning streak could have been longer if Rafael Nadal hadn’t stopped him at Roland Garros between 2005 and 2008. Nadal retired after the Davis Cup Finals, but during those years, he and Djokovic were Federer’s main challengers.

Changing Tides in Tennis:

Djokovic claimed three Grand Slam victories in 2023 but didn’t win any this year for the first time since 2017. This gave others a chance to shine. Alcaraz seized this opportunity by winning both the French Open and Wimbledon again this year. Yet Sinner had an even better season with remarkable consistency throughout all of 2024.

Sinner was unstoppable on hard courts , capturing titles at the Australian Open, US Open, ATP Finals, and three Masters 1000 tournaments that year. These wins made him end the year as No.1.

In his last tournament of the season at the Davis Cup Finals, Sinner helped Italy reach another final against Netherlands without losing form. They beat Argentina earlier on; their captain Guillermo Coria praised Sinner as one of history’s best No.1s—a big statement given all past champions!

Fans might wonder if these two will keep pushing each other to new heights or if someone else will join them soon.

Rick Macci shared thoughts on X (formerly Twitter), saying that while Sinner can still improve many aspects of his game—and his dominance is forcing top players to either step up or get stepped on—Alcaraz must elevate himself further due to this rivalry.

“The best thing about Sinner’s game is he knows there are so many elements that he can improve,” said Macci. “Alcaraz will go to another elite level and be a double Grand Slam winner because of one main reason: a guy named Sinner.”

Interestingly enough though—Alcaraz remains unbeaten against Sinner in official matches during 2024! He defeated him at Indian Wells Open and French Open before outlasting him again during China Open finals.

Sinner finally broke that streak during Six Kings Slam exhibition match—but it wasn’t counted officially between them yet… Imagine how thrilling their matches could become if they continue improving! Do you think someone else might challenge them soon?
